News for August 2006

Chelsea 2, Blackburn 0

August 27, 2006 || posted by whitney

Chelsea look to rebound after a midweek loss to Boro. The Champions have lost 5 of their last 7 EPL games dating back to last season.

Despite a sometimes hot and sometimes cold performance, the Blues proved too much for the Rovers.

Starting 11

4-1-3-2

Boulahrouz
Carvalho

Makelele

Essien
Ballack
Lampard

Shevchenko

First Half

A lackluster first half, as Blackburn kept formation and the Blues struggled to find any width.

Ballack returned from his Community Shield injury, but he did not show very much.

While giving up balance, adapting the traditional 4-3-2-1 with Ballack in a central attacking midfield role and Robben out wide, seems more natural for the players and it would add width to the formation.

Second Half

A well deserved penalty was converted by Lampard. Hopefully this can return some of his lost confidence.

As Blackburn opened up the game, Chelsea were able to utilize the space to create more chances. This year is the team built to build on its leads, rather than grind them out?

When forced to run at full speed, John Terry isn't right. His groin injury may be more serious than previously thought.

Drogba finished a nice counter. After a clear penalty chance, Drogba stayed on his feet proving that his diving ways are behind him.

Goals

Lampard 1-0

Drogba 2-0
