Biography
Lenny ascended the goalkeeping ranks at Chelsea rapidly during the summer when the new coaching team decided they required a young, aspiring goalkeeper to fill the third spot for that position in the squad.
So while the likes of Marco Ambrosio, Neil Sullivan and Jürgen Macho moved on, the tall, youthful Londoner now trains full-time with Carlo Cudicini, Petr Cech and goalkeeping coach Silvino Louro. He also occupied a place on the bench in the opening weeks when Carlo was injured.
Lenny is a product of the Chelsea youth system and has played for England at several junior levels. He became increasingly assured over the last couple of seasons as he grew in stature with regular appearances coming in the reserves.
In September 2003, First Division Watford took him on loan, initially as cover, but Lenny impressively won a first team place, racking up 29 appearances and even facing Chelsea in the FA Cup. While at Vicarage Road he was coached by former Blues stalwart Kevin Hitchcock.
He has yet to make his Chelsea first team debut but at the start of the new season was called into the England Under 21 squad for the first time.
