A Cameroon international regular, Gérémi incredibly had played on four different continents before the age of 21. Real Madrid was the scene of his European initiation where he impressed enough for Claudio Ranieri to request him for Chelsea three summers ago.

The fee needed was not available then but it certainly was a year later by which time the player had given a convincing Premiership audition during a year on loan at Middlesbrough. Chelsea paid Real Madrid £6.9 million.

Capable of filling any position in midfield or playing right-back, his versatility may have counted against him in his first season at the Bridge with frequent switching seeming to deny the good form he had shown when playing wide on ‘Boro's right.

A threat to goal with a deadball, Gérémi continues to impress for his country with whom he has won an Olympic gold medal and two African Cup of Nations.

Finding himself on the fringes last season, the friendly 26 year-old vowed to stay and fight for a place with José Mourinho praising his attitude. He was given games at right-back as the season came to an end, performing solidly.
