Chelsea 2, Porto1 -- updated on March 6, 4:57 PM

Biography

Hernan Crespo made a reputation in Italy, and for Argentina, as one of the world's leading strikers. He joined Chelsea in August 2003 for £16.8m and despite quite a successful first season he left for AC Milan the following summer due to failing to settle in London as he and his family would have hoped.

Making his international debut for Argentina in February 1995 and moved to Parma in Italy that summer to quickly become a scoring sensation. His goals record for Parma persuaded Lazio to pay a then world record fee of £36.5 million for his services and he didn't fail to deliver, piling on more goals.

With Lazio struggling financially he moved to Inter Milan as a replacement for Ronaldo and again scored goals for his new team. The pattern is clear wherever Hernan Crespo plays, he scores goals, both for club and country.

Quick and strong with the touch you'd expect from a South American he has that killer instinct all top strikers need and unlike many he is also superb in the air where a large percentage of his goals come from. After a successful year on loan Mourinho persuaded Crespo to give the Premiership and Chelsea another go.  Undoubted quality it will be interesting to see how his second spell pans out.
