A past stranger to injuries and bookings, Wayne is steady in defence and a bundle of energy going forward where three goals two seasons back beat the tally from his whole career before.

Life under José Mourinho began with Wayne first having to overcome rare injuries and then compete with William Gallas for the left-back position. As he was finding his best form of the campaign, a badly broken ankle suffered at Newcastle in February sadly ended his season.
